Mae Roe’s Hands

Mae Roe’s Hands is an austere piano solo that is ‘orchestral’ in its colors and gentle in its web of mellifluous melodies. Its influences are not deeply buried, nor is it hard to characterize, it is written using unstable harmonies of open and perfect intervals to add the richness of color and sense of timelessness. It is lush, skillfully written, and very artful in its cinematic orientation. This four-minute evocation of the stark American tradition is a kind of contemporary counterpart to Charles Ives and captures handsomely its meandering, contemplative mood.
