  • 'Scott Pilgrim Takes Off' Netflix anime series

    Over the past nearly two decades, Scott Pilgrim has undergone several adaptations. Introduced in Bryan Lee O'Malley's graphic novel "Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life," the character expanded into a six-volume series. In 2010, a live-action film directed by Edgar Wright and a companion 8-bit video game by Ubisoft were released. Now, Scott Pilgrim takes on a new form in the anime series "Scott Pilgrim Takes Off" on Netflix, produced and written by O'Malley and BenDavid Grabinski and music by Joseph Trapanese. The animation is handled by the Japanese studio Science SARU, known for projects like Devilman Crybaby and Inu-Oh, with director Abel Góngora leading the visual production. This 2023 anime series features the original cast reprising their roles and promises a fresh adventure for fans of the iconic character. Nathan orchestrated the punk rock arrangements for orchestra and choir.

  • SPARKS album, arranger

    ‘The Girl is Crying in Her Latte’ marks the 25th studio album by the American rock group Sparks, released through Island Records in May 2023. It received a score of 85 out of 100 on the review aggregator Metacritic. Phil Mongredien of The Guardian gave it 5 out of 5 stars, calling it "far from an exercise in backward-looking nostalgia or a rehash of former glories. In fact, it's an utter joy." Heather Phares of AllMusic opined that there is "something distinctly cinematic about the sounds and storytelling," adding that it is "extra satisfying that this peak in their popularity coincides with music this vibrantly engaging." Hal Horowitz of American Songwriter dubbed it Sparks' best work, writing, "To say it sounds like another great Sparks set might be damning it with faint praise." The album also features actress Cate Blanchett in a music video. Nathan wrote the arrangement of the track "Take Me For a Ride."

  • Steven Spielberg movie Music Coordinator

    'West Side Story' is a musical film based on the 1957 Broadway musical by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim, with a screenplay by Pulitzer Prize-winner Tony Kushner and directed by Steven Spielberg. Nathan helped design and establish high levels of organization and communication for daily cast and orchestra recording schedules during pre-production, and provided supervision and dissemination of highly sensitive materials between parties of production and post-production crew; all involved actors, singers, and dancers; musician union representatives, and set-up/playback teams. Composer Jeannine Tesori was Vocal Music Supervisor. Other duties include administering the full lifecycle of any facilitated sound and/or audio deliverables throughout the music production and post-production process while maintaining all required legal compliance between such deliverables between all location shooting sites and providing crew members support, as needed.

    AJR is an American indie pop trio composed of multi-instrumentalist brothers Adam, Jack, and Ryan Met. In 2019, their third album Neotheater debuted at number 8 on the Billboard 200, and hit number one on the Top Rock Albums chart. "Bang!" is their highest-charting song and the only song to reach the top 10, peaking at number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 on January 22, 2021. The band writes, produces, and mixes their music in the living room of their apartment in New York City. Their musical style has been described as "eclectic," combining elements of pop, doo-wop, electronic, and dubstep. Nathan worked as the orchestrator with arranger John Angier and music producer Steve Greenberg on a special live concert orchestra YouTube special during March 2021 that has since received over a million views.

    Selected from a worldwide call for scores in 2022 for a full-tuition fellowship for workshop and premiere in the Netherlands for the Mostly Modern Festival in collaboration with the Musiekschool Zeeland. All composers received a performance by a festival chamber ensemble, received rehearsals of their chamber works, a dress rehearsal, and a performance. Nathan’s piece was for String Quartet. In the U.S., the album debuted at Number 89 on the Billboard 200, selling 4,000 copies its first week.

  • Michael Bublè: PBS Special Concerts

    David Foster tasked Nathan with transcribing and re-orchestrating several of Mr. Bublè's existing arrangements for the televised PBS special’s featured orchestra for the internationally televised music concert of Michael Bublè. Nathan re-arranged and adapted all of Mr. Bublè's scores to reflect the larger instrumentation for the new orchestra setting for his band. The pre-production and shooting of the concert also featured Nathan on additional keyboards, backing up Bublè as he sang his hits for the live PBS: Great Performances concert series special. The music was also recorded for commercial release and sold individually in retail stores. Nathan's meticulous re-orchestrations breathed new life into Michael Bublè's iconic arrangements, seamlessly integrating them with the grandeur of the featured orchestra for a memorable performance captured on PBS's Great Performances concert series special.

  • The Juilliard School: Master's

    Nathan was awarded a generous scholarship to attend the prestigious Juilliard School music conservatory in the heart of NYC’s Lincoln Center for his Master’s Degree in Music Composition. His primary composition teacher was famed composer-conductor Matthias Pintscher, with additional lectures by Pultizer-Prize winner John Corigliano and the late Christopher Rouse. Nathan composed several works for string quartet, solo instruments, chamber ensembles, and orchestra and won awards internationally, including EarShot’s orchestra competition sponsored by the American Composers Orchestra and the Ft. Wayne Philharmonic. Nathan was also selected from a highly competitive group to be ‘Morse Teaching Artist Fellow’ giving composition and performance workshops to promising young artists in neighboring boroughs of NYC schools.

  • June-In-Buffalo composer fellowships

    Nathan was handpicked from a global pool to partake in the June-In-Buffalo workshop in NY, featuring lectures, rehearsals, and performances. Founded in 1975 by the composer Morton Feldman, public lectures and private lessons were given by mentor composers Robert Beaser, Steven Stucky, Kaija Saariaho, Julia Wolfe, Fred Lerdahl, and Louis Andriessen who received concert performances of their music. Nathan also attended a second year in which mentor composers included Hans Abrahamsen, Hanna Eimermacher, Joshua Fineberg, Josh Levine, David Felder, and Chinary Ung. Nathan’s composition for Harp & Flute, “Harbor Music” consisted of two contrasting movements and was well-reviewed by Allan Kozinn of the New York Times saying its “harp writing is tactile, its flute lines rich in melody. Mr. Kelly provides enough athleticism and dialogue to make this an appealing showpiece.” Additionally, the two movement piece “Of Leaves” was premiered by Ensemble Dal Niente for Pierrot plus Percussion, loudly lauded by fellows and mentor composers.

  • Tanglewood Music Festival

    The Tanglewood Music Festival is a music festival held every summer on the Tanglewood estate in Stockbridge and Lenox in the Berkshire Hills in western Massachusetts. The festival consists of a series of concerts, including symphonic music, chamber music, choral music, musical theater, contemporary music, jazz, and pop music. The Boston Symphony Orchestra is in residence at the festival, but many of the concerts are put on by other groups. It is one of the premier music festivals in the United States and one of the premier music festivals and schools in the world. Nathan worked as Sir Andrè Previn’s music assistant and came to Tanglewood as his invited guest to attend his many lecture series on jazz, composition, and conducting lectures, in addition to his concert programs with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and a jazz trio with Jim Hall and David Finck. While there, Nathan attended additional workshops and programs given by the composition and librarian department mentors, including composers John Harbison and Michael Gandolfi. Mr. Previn’s busy schedule also included conducting two performance dates and rehearsals with the Boston Symphony Orchestra in Mozart 29, Haydn Cello Concerto No. 1 (with Daniel Mùller-Schott), Ravel’s Scheherazade (with Michelle DeYoung), and Rave’s complete Mother Goose. Second performances included Tschaikovsky’s Romeo & Juliet, Rachmaninoff’s First Piano Concerto, and Prokofiev’s ballet music from Romeo & Juliet.

    Nathan demonstrated his remarkable musical prowess by undertaking the arrangement and orchestration of an array of American patriotic music for The United States Army Field Band & Soldiers’ Chorus, featuring distinguished guest soloists. This extraordinary performance took center stage during the annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks, a spectacular event set against the backdrop of the iconic New York City skyline, and was broadcasted internationally on NBC. Nathan's special arrangements, including renditions of the U.S. National Anthem ('Star-Spangled Banner') and 'America, The Beautiful,' were seamlessly integrated into a pre-recorded score. This score was meticulously choreographed to complement the grandeur of the multi-million dollar aerial fireworks pyrotechnics, creating a visually and acoustically stunning experience. The event garnered attention from a diverse audience of over five million viewers, reaching households nationally and globally through television broadcasts and internet streaming services. Nathan's musical contributions not only added a unique and emotive layer to the patriotic celebration but also showcased his ability to create captivating compositions that resonate with audiences on a grand scale.

It was produced by multiple Grammy-winning producers and Verve Label Chairman, David Foster. It debuted as the Number #2 album with 94,000 copies sold and remained in the Billboard Top Ten for 3 weeks, and Billboard 200 for over two months. “Quizas” was also used on Bocelli’s Latin Album and became his second Number #1 hit in Latin America. Passione is Gold-album status (500,000+ albums sold in the U.S.). Bocelli has performed Nathan’s arrangement on Good Morning America, QVC, iTV (Great Britain), ABC’s The View, NBC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Telemundo, and Dancing With the Stars, as well as Bocelli’s World Tour of 2013-2015. “Quizas” continues to be a favorite of Bocelli’s and is frequently performed in concerts.
 Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli’s 14th studio album titled “Passione” was released on Sugar, Decca, and Verve music labels featuring a collection of Mediterranean love songs in six languages. It features a 63-piece orchestra and several duets with recording artists such as Jennifer Lopez, Nelly Furtado, Chris Botti, and a virtual duet with the late French cabaret singer Edith Piaf.

  • 'Cutting Edge Concerts' Executive Director

    ‘Cutting Edge Concerts’ was founded as a 501c3 non-profit in 1996 by Dr. Victoria Bond, the first woman to be awarded a doctorate in conducting from The Juilliard School. She was also appointed by Andrè Previn to lead the Pittsburgh Symphony in 1978. Nathan was hired to work as Executive Director of the organization to help bolster support in 4 primary areas:

    1.) Board Governance - responsible for leading and communicating effectively with the Board and supporting its guidelines to the organization’s mission with all timely and accurate information necessary for the Board to function properly and make informed decisions.

    2.) Financial Performance & Visibility - develop fundraising, grant-writing, and community outreach to ensure the financial health, fiscal integrity, and fiscal management for annual and monthly financial statements, that accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization and ensure maximum resource utilization.

    3.) Organization Mission & Strategy - works with Board and staff to ensure the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning, and community outreach by working closely with professional, civic, and private partners. Responsibilities include implementation of adequate rehearsals, administering contract terms, and scheduling of timetables for all performers, conductors, and composers.

    4.) Organization Operations - oversees and implements the successful hiring and retention of competent, qualified staff and administrators; and signing of all notes, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of the organization.

  • 'Newsies' Broadway orchestrations

    Nathan assisted lead Disney orchestrator Danny Troob on the Broadway musical ‘Newsies’ on various dance music orchestrations based on musical materials from the original film songs and newly composed songs written especially for the Broadway production by composer Alan Menken. It was nominated for a Drama Desk and Tony Award for ‘Best Orchestrations’.

    Newsies: the Musical is a Disney musical based on the 1992 musical film of the same name, which was inspired by the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899 in New York City. The Broadway production has music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman, and a new book by Harvey Fierstein based on the film's screenplay by Bob Tzudiker and Noni White. The musical premiered at the Paper Mill Playhouse in 2011. The musical opened on Broadway at the Nederlander Theatre for a limited engagement starting in previews on March 15, 2012, where it played for more than 1,000 performances before touring nationally and internationally. Newsies recouped its initial investment of $5M in seven months, becoming the fastest of any Disney musical on Broadway to turn a profit.

    Following the end of the tour, a limited filmed theatrical release was announced for February 2017. The three-day release grossed $3.47 million. Disney then announced the musical production would be available digitally on May 23, 2017. On August 24, 2017, Disney announced the filmed production of Newsies would be available on Netflix from September 10. The film was made available on Disney's streaming service, Disney+.

    ‘Merry Christmas, Baby’ is the first Christmas album by Rod Stewart, released on 30 October 2012. The album has proved to be a top 10 success in many countries including the UK, US, Canada, and Australia. It was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America in November 2012 with over 1,000,000 copies sold in the US. Nathan's tracks can be felt in all the arrangements as he assisted Music Producer and Arranger David Foster in all of the arrangements without credit appearing on the album. The album was also the year's fifteenth best-selling album in the U.S. according to Billboard and the ninth best-selling physical album in the U.S. according to the Nielson Company's 2012 Music Industry Report. A televised live concert for PBS: Great Performances was also produced which featured Rod Stewart hosting his first-holiday special for Channel Thirteen's Great Performances Series which first aired December 2012 on PBS.

  • Shanghai Disneyland, attraction orchestrator

    Orchestrating the music for Disneyland's new Tarzan stage show features a new, original score by composer Don Harper of Armageddon and National Treasure by a 110- piece orchestra and choir.
 Called ‘Tarzan: Call of the Jungle’ began in Shanghai Disneyland and ‘Tarzan: The Encounter’ in Disneyland Paris at The Chaparral Theater, it features the iconic score from the animated film with a fusion of aerial theatrics, acrobatics, and rock and orchestral music with a blended new musical score. It also includes all the hit Phil Collins songs with original vocal tracks interwoven within the new score that embraces and heightens the epic retelling. The immersive new family-friendly attraction combines music and choreography into a 45-minute jungle-themed stunt stage show that runs approximately 45-minutes. Nathan's orchestrations include five scenes of the show and include: Scene 3 (Son of Man, Part 1), Scene 4 (Saber Fight), Scene 6 (Strangers Like Me), Scene 7 (Poacher Battle), and Scene 8 (Two Worlds- Finale).

  • Dionne Warwick album, orchestrations

    Dionne Warwick ranks among the 40 biggest US hitmakers between 1955 and 1999, based on her chart history on Billboard's Hot 100 pop singles chart. She is the second-most charted female vocalist during the rock era (1955-1999). She is also one of the most-charted vocalists of all time, with 56 of her singles making the Hot 100 between 1962 and 1998 (12 of them are Top Ten), and 80 singles in total – either solo or collaboratively – making the Hot 100, R&B and/or adult contemporary charts. Nathan orchestrated four of the best-charting songs of the 44-minute album ‘Only Trust Your Heart,’ including the title song, alongside arranger John Angier and producer Michael Mangini. The songs are "And Then You Kissed Me," "I’m a Fool To Want You," "I Love I Fall In Love Too Easily," and “Only Trust Your Heart.” The album reached the Top Ten of the US Billboard’s Top Jazz Albums of the year.

    The Golden State Pops Orchestra (GSPO) is an American symphony pops orchestra located in the San Pedro district of Los Angeles, California in the United States of America. It is the resident orchestra of the Warner Grand Theatre, an Art Deco movie palace built by Warner Brothers Studios in 1931. The orchestra performs a wide variety of musical repertoire, including classical, Broadway, pop music, and even video game soundtracks. However, the primary focus of the pops orchestra remains film music, a specialty of the orchestra since its founding in 2002. It is composed of professional freelance musicians from around the Los Angeles area. The orchestra was founded in 2002 by conductor Steven Allen Fox. Nathan served as pianist and on keyboards on several concert series programs, that included numerous films, games, Disney scores, and special guest vocalists and performers.

    22 fresh, re-arranged, and altogether new imaginings of classic SPARKS songs were arranged by Nathan for live orchestra concerts performed by American pop duo, Ron & Russell Mael (a.k.a. SPARKS). Classic and new songs were performed at the London Barbican (conducted by Jules Buckley) and the Los Angeles Ace Hotel (conducted by Suzie Katayama). Concert reviews were spectacularly glowing in their enthusiasm for the imaginative surprises that accompanied the duo by both fans and critics alike.   • Stephen Schwartz opera

    Nathan assisted lead orchestrator William David Brohn (Ragtime, Wicked, Miss Saigon) as copyist on Stephen Schwartz's joint-opera commision for the Santa Barbara Opera and the New York City Opera. Séance on a Wet Afternoon is a two-act dramatic opera with music and libretto by Broadway composer Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Pippin, Wicked), based on the novel by Mark McShane and screenplay by Bryan Forbes’s 1964 film of the same name. It premiered on September 26, 2009, at the Granada Theatre of Opera Santa Barbara, and lasts for 2 hours 50 minutes.

  • 'America's Got Talent' arrangements

    Nathan's orchestral arrangement of Bernstein's "Somewhere" from ‘West Side Story’ was written for Jackie Evancho’s premier song for her 2019 album focusing on songs from 21st-century Broadway musicals. She performed the song on NBC’s ‘America’s Got Talent: The Champions’ in the finale competition promoting the album and her hopes to solidify her win as champion in the competition. Evancho first appeared on Season 5 of “America’s Got Talent” and became the youngest contestant to reach platinum by age 10. Her all-Broadway album, ‘The Debut, is her eighth release and reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Classical Albums.

  • ASCAP Los Angeles with Richard Bellis, film scoring

    Nathan was selected from a worldwide call for scores from composers to participate in the annual ASCAP film scoring workshop. It features a month-long series of professional workshop lectures from studio executives, agents, attorneys, and music supervisors. 12 participants receive screen-to-picture recordings of scores that are written during the program by a 64-piece orchestra on Fox Soundstages. The workshop is led by Richard Bellis.



  • Aspen Summer Music Festival & School

    The Aspen Music Festival & School (AMFS) is a classical music festival held annually in Aspen, Colorado. It is noted both for its concert programming and the musical training offered to young music students. The typical 8-week summer season includes more than 400 classical music events — including concerts by five orchestras, solo and chamber music performances, fully staged opera productions, master classes, lectures, and children's programming—and brings in 70,000 audience members. As a training ground, it draws more than 650 students from 40 states and 34 countries. While in Aspen, students participate in lessons, coaching, and public performances in orchestras, operas, and chamber music, often playing side-by-side with AMFS artist-faculty. Nathan attended the prestigious Festival on scholarship in film music composition. Mentor composer Marco Beltrami filled in for Howard Shore in a months-long summer experience that included two recordings of scenes from films, one of them with the Aspen Orchestra, conducted by Case Scaglione.

    Nathan's prowess as a composer shone brightly as his musical compositions for orchestra earned him prestigious recognition twice through global calls for scores. The first performance took place with the Buffalo Philharmonic under the baton of Matthew Kraemer, while the second showcase unfolded with the Ft. Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, conducted by Andrew Constantine. Nathan's compositions underwent insightful workshops led by esteemed mentors, including Steven Stucky, David Felder, and Robert Beaser during the Buffalo Philharmonic performance, and Melinda Wagner, Chen Yi, and Alex Minceck during the Ft. Wayne Philharmonic rendition. Notably, these compositions were recognized and workshopped by the American Composers Orchestra, featuring leaders such as Derek Bermel as the Artistic Director, George Manahan as the Music Director, Edward Yim as the President, and Dennis Russell Davies serving as the Conductor Laureate. This series of accomplishments underscores Nathan's remarkable talent and his ability to capture the attention and admiration of renowned orchestras and distinguished figures in the world of classical music.

  • Andrè Previn, orchestrator

    André Previn was a wunderkind German-born American composer, pianist, and conductor, whose renowned and prolific musical career was included 50 Hollywood film scores, hailed as master jazz and classical pianist, and conductor of several orchestras, including chief conductor of the Houston Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, London Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, the Royal Philharmonic, and the Oslo Philharmonic. Working at his studios in NYC, Nathan helped bring the sketches and commissions of the late Kennedy Center Honor's composer and Grammy Lifetime award-winner to life. Nathan began helping his teacher, William David Brohn who had begun to help Mr. Previn orchestrate several of his composition commissions. Nathan began as copyist for Previn and began to orchestrate several of Mr. Previn's works for live concert performances, including "Three Emily Dickinson Songs," "Tango, Song, and Dance" (for Anne-Sophie Mutter), "Owls" (for the Boston Symphony), "Harp Concerto," and his last opera "A Brief Encounter."

  • University of Southern California: film scoring

    Nathan attended The University of Southern California’s prestigious one-year film scoring program called “Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television.” Prior to offering a two-year program, culminating in a Master’s Degree in “Screen Scoring,” the program offered a certificate of completion. The curriculum included faculty lectures by Jack Smalley, Chris Young, Eric Schmidt, Bruce Broughton, and Joel McNeeley and weekly recording sessions with professional orchestra musicians. It also included visiting guest lectures by many industry professionals across all areas of commercial music and sound design, most notably, Dennis Sands, engineer; Kenny Hall, music editing; Pete Anthony, conducting; and Dave Slonaker, orchestration. Special guest composers included Rachel Portman, Harry Gregson-Williams, and Marco Beltrami. Nathan was selected by Dean of USC Thornton School’s Robert Cutietta to be partnered with a year-long mentorship with Thomas Newman.

    Best known by his stage name ‘Five for Fighting’, Vlad Ondrasik is an American singer-songwriter, pianist, and record producer. He is best known for his piano-based soft rock ballads, such as the top 40 hits "Superman,” "100 Years," and "The Riddle." He has recorded six full-length studio albums, one EP, and several live albums as ‘Five for Fighting.’ His song "Superman" was nominated for a Grammy. The singer has had songs featured in 350 films, TV shows, and advertisements. Nathan wrote three orchestrations for an orchestra to be combined with a rock band, with arrangements by conductor Mateo Messina. Nathan’s orchestrations for the chart-topping artist were performed for a benefit concert for the Seattle Children's Hospital. Nathan's orchestrations include: "Superman," "100 Years," and "World" and were performed by the Seattle Symphony Orchestra.

  • Banff Centre for the Arts, composer-in-residence

    The Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity is located in Banff, Alberta, Canada, and is a non-degree granting post-secondary educational institution. It offers facilities and resources to support artists of all disciplines in the performing and fine arts. The program is ideal for composers and music researchers who enjoy spending focused time working on a specific project; creating new works; preparing for concerts, auditions, or competitions; or exploring and researching innovative ideas. Artists worked autonomously in an unstructured environment to benefit the most from the program and complete their artistic goals and individual objectives. Nathan was an artist-in-residence in music composition. His completed works while at the Centre were focused on completing commissions, including chamber music and a two-act Opera for orchestra and actors/singers.

  • Disneyland California, orchestrator

    "The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure" is a ride attraction based on the 1989 animated film located at Disneyland's ‘California Adventure’ and at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom in Fantasyland, retitled "Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid." Nathan assisted lead orchestrator Danny Troob on the arrangements and re-orchestrating of composer Alan Menken's award-winning original score and songs. Musical changes were reflected by the need for considerations of the attraction’s storyline and physical distancing requirements, making pre-existing audio and dialogue effects, exact timings of original score materials, looping placements, key modulations, resulting in 40-minutes of newly orchestrated music recorded by a 110-piece orchestra at Los Angeles’s Clint Eastwood Scoring Stage.

  • Imogen Heap concert

    Imogen Heap is a British singer, musician, and record producer. Her work has been considered pioneering in pop and electro-pop music. Heap has been regarded as influential in pop music, specifically in electropop, and for using technology in her music. Heap has been cited as a musical inspiration for a number of other musical artists, such as Ariana Grande, Pentatonix, and Kelly Clarkson. The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter appeared as a guest artist alongside the Seattle Symphony in a benefit for the Seattle Children's Hospital. Nathan provided orchestrations for the Seattle Symphony Orchestra with the addition of Heap’s piano and bank to some of her most chart-topping songs and well-known musical scores were additionally arranged by special musical host and conductor, Mateo Messina. Songs at the concert event included: "Neglected Space," "Hide & Seek," and "You Find Me."

  • 'The Greatest Showman' Suite

    The Greatest Showman is a 2017 American musical drama film featuring nine original songs from Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. The film was inspired by the story of P. T. Barnum's creation of Barnum's American Museum and the lives of its star attractions. The film grossed $435 million worldwide, making it the fifth highest-grossing live-action musical film of all time, and won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song, "This Is Me.” Nathan was asked to arranged a suite of music based on the film’s score and hit songs that featured the many highlights from the existing arrangements of the score that were to be re-orchestrated and expanded for traditional, conventional concert orchestras nationwide would feature and accompany singers.

  • 'The Tony Awards' orchestrations

    Nathan was asked to compose and arrange “utility music” for the annual, televised Tony Awards, held at Radio City Music Hall in NYC. The expanded orchestra featured several music ‘play-ons’ and ‘play-offs’ based on the year’s musical nominees and special guest performers. The awards are presented by the American Theatre Wing and The Broadway League. The Tony Awards are considered the highest U.S. theatre honor, the New York theatre industry's equivalent to the Academy Awards (Oscars) for film, the Emmy Awards for television, and the Grammy Awards for music.

  • Thousand Foot Krutch orchestrations

    Nathan arranged and orchestrated three songs for orchestral accompaniment for the band ‘Thousand Foot Krutch’’s band plus orchestra live concert. TFK is a Canadian Christian rock band that has sold over 1 million records and recorded 8 albums to date. 
Nathan's orchestral arrangements and accompaniments of their songs include: "The End is Where We Begin," "War of Change," and "Be Somebody." The special event was performed to benefit the Seattle Children's Hospital and performed by the Seattle Symphony.

  • Celtic Thunder album arranger

    The show was filmed on location at the Helix Theatre in Dublin (where they filmed their debut show in 2007), it’s fitting that Celtic Thunder have chosen to return to their roots in order to film this musical odyssey back to the heart of the Celt. Nathan's track "Tears of Hercules" presents the perfect blend of entertainment, ideology, and Gaelic spirituality, providing a modern twist on the old Celtic storytelling tradition. Celtic Thunder’s six male soloists Emmet Cahill, Keith Harkin, Ryan Kelly, George Donaldson, Neil Byrne, and Colm Keegan are known for performing an eclectic mix of songs.

  • Bowdoin International Music Festival, composer

    Nathan was awarded a scholarship to study music composition fellow at the Bowdoin International Summer Music Festival. It is one of the world’s premier annual summer music institutes. 250 young musicians from more than 20 countries and nearly every US state attend the Festival to study with distinguished faculty and guest artists in nearly 200 free events including student performances, composer lectures, masterclasses, and public concerts. Mentor composers included Robert Beaser and Derek Bermel, and composition fellows included Viet Cuong, David Gottlieb, and Noam Faingold.

  • Barbra Streisand album, Music Coordinator

    Barbra Streisand is one of a few performers who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony. She is a singer, actress, and filmmaker, with a career spanning over six decades of entertainment. Nathan worked for Walter Afanasieff and Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds on their production of the album ‘Partners.’ Her 34th studio album, Partners topped the Billboard 200 with sales of 196,000 copies in the very first week. While working for David Foster, Nathan helped assist the collaborative producers with the music coordinating, score preparations, and transcriptions at both Kenny G’s and Streisand’s home studios.

  • Marc Shaiman assistant

    Marc Shaiman is a composer, songwriter, and lyricist for films, television, and music theatre. He has won a Grammy, an Emmy, and a Tony, and has been nominated for seven Oscars. Nathan assisted the composer on ‘Catch Me If You Can’ as it was being written for a musical with libretto by Terrence McNally. The composer was preparing for the highly popular TV Series Smash; album arrangements for Bette Midler; revising orchestrations for Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, directed by Sam Mendes; and writing arrangements for the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards. Nathan also worked on compiling the complete film scores from The Addams Family and The Addams Family Values for special synchronous concerts of live orchestra and film concerts.

  • NY Foundation for the Arts, composer award

    ‘The Thayer Fellowship and the Patricia Kerr Ross Award’ are given each year to outstanding candidates for graduation in the arts through endowments established in honor of Jeanne Thayer and Patricia Kerr Ross and administered by the New York Foundation for the Arts. Fellowships are for post-graduate support for students pursuing careers in the creative and performing arts. A panel of jurors selects the winning artist from a highly competitive pool of candidates from any NY college in any artistic discipline of visual, literary, or musical arts. The basis for the award is for an exceptional student who demonstrates “excellence, originality, and promise.”

  • Pacific Northwest Film Scoring Program

    The Pacific Northwest Film Scoring Program is a summer intensive program in Seattle that hosts young film composers from around the world in downtown Seattle to study the art, craft, and business of music for film and other media in a two-week seminar with two-time Emmy Award-winning composer and arranger Hummie Mann and other veterans of the industry. Instruction was in studio technology, creating music and sound design for film, business and contracts, and networking. It included other talented composers including Michael Reis, Massimo Sammi, and Stephanie Economou.

  • 'Curtains' on Broadway, additional orchestrations

    Nathan contributed additional dance music orchestrations, entr'acte, exit music, and vocal song accompaniments for lead orchestrator William David Brohn on John Kander’s and the late Fred Ebb’s long-gestating Broadway show, with additional lyrics by Rupert Holmes. The two worked on the orchestrations for the Los Angeles premiere and again, with revisions, for the Broadway run which ran for over 500 performances, followed by international tours. It is a murder-mystery musical told through a series of backstage show-within-a-show musical theatre sub-plots set in Boston in 1959. New York Times critic Ben Brantley said the central character had "the best damn musical theatre character since Mama Rose in 'Gypsy'. It featured an 18-piece orchestra and was arranged and orchestrated in several reiterations before coming to Broadway. The musical garnered eight Tony Award nominations, including ‘Best Original Score’ and ‘Best Orchestrations.’

  • Atlantic Center for the Arts, artist-in-residence

    Nathan was awarded a full scholarship to attend the multidisciplinary artist-in-residence program in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. It has provided over 3,500 artists from around the world with an opportunity to work and collaborate with some of the world’s masters in the visual, literary, and performing arts. Artistic mentor composers included Rosellen Brown (author), David Felder (composer), and Jean-Marc Bustamante (visual artist). Artists in residence were invited to attend masterclasses in any artistic discipline and cross-collaborate. Nathan worked with visual artist Takeshi Moro on a film score displayed at the festival and other museums internationally and with electroacoustic music composers. Other composers included Cherise Leiter and Ashley Fu-Tsun Wang. Nathan was later asked to be the Host of Ceremonies and featured composer-pianist for ACA’s donor exhibition spotlight event, with composers Matt McBane and Kyle Gann.

  • 'Worlds of Adventure' theme park composer

    IMG Worlds of Adventure is the world's largest indoor theme and amusement park located in the United Arab Emirates at a cost of $3.6 billion dollars. Boasting 1.5 million- square feet and 20,000 guests per day, this mega-themed entertainment destination attracts kids and adults with its four zones of roller coasters, dining experiences, attractions, live shows, and even shopping, and 12 cinema complexes.
 Music was composed for each of the three attractions' entrance and exit music, the complementing story's plot-lines, and twists, and its immersive cinema experience as it guides and directs the attractions' unfolding narrative through film and multi-sensory immersive guest experiences through time-looped soundtracks and sound design. Nathan's music is featured as part of two different ride attractions that include music to its "The Velociraptor" ride (16-minutes) - a journey in a time machine that launches guests from the prehistoric jungles of the Lost Valley through thrill-seeking encounters with dinosaurs; and "Arabian Nights" (15-minutes) - a 360° immersive movie and ride experiential and cinematic adventure with the legend of Aladdin and his magic lamp.

  • Kristin Chenoweth: debut 'Hollywood Bowl' arranger

    Nathan was commissioned to create special arrangements for the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, featuring songs from Kristin Chenoweth’s favorite films in a two-day, all-sold-out live concert performance of songs from Chenoweth’s favorite films. Nathan designed the exhilarating introduction for the concert, leading into the opening performance song, over the course of two-acts that showcased her remarkable vocal range and prowess. Nathan's arrangement of "Que Sera, Sera" from Hitchcock’s "The Man Who Knew Too Much" premiered to acclaim and has remained a favorite of Ms. Chenoweth, featuring consistently as a staple in her concert guest performances with major orchestras across the US, Canada, and Europe, including The London Philharmonic, Boston Pops, National Symphony Orchestra, Buffalo Philharmonic, Dallas Symphony, Chicago Symphony, and San Francisco Symphony. The performances and Nathan’s arrangements were praised in several major publications.

  • ASCAP-NYU 'Buddy Baker' film scoring composer

    With masterclasses and lessons headlined by luminary composers Bruce Broughton, Mark Snow, Ira Newborn; music editor, Tim Starnes; and orchestrators Sonny Kompanek and David Spears, the NYU-ASCAP film scoring workshop at New York University provided participants with lessons, recordings, and rehearsals and recordings with top industry professionals. It also highlighted lessons and workshops about the creative process of film scoring, music editing, music preparation, and recording and mixing.

  • 'Oblivion' film suite

    ‘Oblivion’ is a post-apocalyptic action-adventure film starring Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman. It is based on the Joseph Kosinski's unpublished graphic novel of the same name and pays homage to 1970s science fiction films. Nathan was asked by the film composers to create an orchestral suite of M83 and Joseph Trapanese’s richly layered electronic and acoustic orchestra original soundtrack. With a large soundbed of both thin and dense layers, themes, and newly created electronic sounds, the ‘Suite from Oblivion’ can be performed without electronics for large orchestra and includes six of the film’s main themes in this evocative and compelling showpiece for orchestra. It was premiered for a special film music concert in Europe and continues to be a special signature score for the composers.

  • 'The Color Purple' Broadway musical

    ‘The Color Purple’ is a musical with book by Marsha Norman; music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis, and Stephen Bray; and produced by Oprah Winfrey and Quincy Jones. It is based on the 1982 novel by Alice Walker and the 1985 Steven Spielberg film. It follows the journey of Celie, an African-American woman in the American South from the early to mid-20th century. The original Broadway production won 11 Tony Award nominations and was revived on Broadway winning two Tony Awards including ‘Best Revival of a Musical’ and ‘Best Actress in a Musical.’ Nathan’s first job in NYC was as the intern for the Music Department tasked with working between music supervisor, conductor, composers, copyists, and stage managers.

  • 'The Little Mermaid' assistant orchestrator

    The Little Mermaid is a stage musical produced by Disney Theatrical based on the 1989 animated film by Hans Christian Andersen. With music and lyrics by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman and additional lyrics by Glenn Slater, it ran on Broadway for 685 performances and 50 previews followed by US and international tours. Nathan contributed orchestrations for lead orchestrator Danny Troob. The original Broadway cast recording contains 29 songs from the musical and was nominated for a Grammy Award. It ranked No. 26 on the Billboard 200 albums, the second-highest position for a cast album in 25 years after Rent. It was nominated for a Tony award for 'Best Orchestrations.'

    Nathan was featured in the pages of ASCAP’s Playback magazine in the ‘Composer Spotlight’ and identifies him as a composer to watch. The article also discusses the recent impact of being a successful participant in the ASCAP-NYU ‘Buddy Baker’ film scoring workshop and its role on the young composer and arranger. After completing a successful recording of a scene with the orchestra, mentor composers and orchestra were especially helpful in guiding Nathan through his first series of steps that ultimately led him to the University of Southern California where he was mentored by Thomas Newman and led to working for 16-time Grammy-winning producer David Foster.

    Nathan worked as a music copyist for the long-running FOX animated series ‘The Simpsons’ on the brilliant cues for composer Alf Clausen while working at Jo Ann Kane Music. The orchestration for each episode differs slightly and is recorded at FOX’s Newman soundstages weekly. A typical episode will be comprised of about 30-35 separate cues. The orchestra is typically 35 union musicians, consisting of 4 woodwinds, 7 brass, 2 keyboards, 2 percussionists, 2 guitars, 2 keyboards, a harp, and 17 strings. The recording session lasts from 3 hours to 6 hours, depending on the needs of the episode. The show is digitally recorded at 48 khz sample rate, 24-bit word depth, and to a Broadcast Wave file. A typical scoring session generates about 2GB of music files.

    Nathan was a composer-in-residence at the Helen Wurlitzer Foundation, one of the oldest artist residency programs in America. It strives to support visual artists, literary artists, and music composers. Located on 15 acres in the heart of Taos, New Mexico, the HWF is a multicultural community renowned for its popularity with artists. Applicants are reviewed by a blind selection committee consisting of professionals who specialize in the artistic discipline of the applicant. Nathan completed several works for chamber orchestra and the beginning sketches of his first Opera in two-acts and was completed while obtaining his Ph.D. in Music Composition.

  • American Composers Orchestra winner

    The American Composers Orchestra partners with the EarShot Readings program to identify and celebrate emerging American composers. Each reading typically includes two sessions with a professional orchestra, a working rehearsal, and a run-through performance. Composers participate in a series of professional development workshops covering such topics as promotion, score preparation, publishing, copyright agreements, and other career essentials, and performances are recorded. Participant composers will work closely with a group of two or three mentor composers, a group that changes for each reading. Nathan was selected from a worldwide call for scores to attend rehearsals with the Buffalo Philharmonic (conducted by Matthew Kraemer) for his piece ‘The Legend of Pecos Bill’ with mentor composers Steven Stucky, David Felder, and Robert Beaser; and the Ft. Wayne Philharmonic (conducted by Andrew Constantine) for Redwood II, with mentor composers Alex Minnick, Melinda Wagner, and Chen Yi.

  • 'Radio City Christmas Spectacular' pianist

    ‘The Christmas Spectacular Starring the Radio City Rockettes’ is an annual musical holiday stage show presented at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. The 90-minute show features more than 140 performers and an original musical score. It combines singing, dancing, and humor with traditional scenes. The star performers are the women's precision dance troupe ‘the Rockettes’. Since the first version was presented in 1933, the show has become a New York Christmas tradition. Nathan worked at 30 Rock in NYC as a rehearsal pianist for the Rockettes, the choreographers, music supervisors, and music composers/arrangers. He playing orchestral reductions from the upcoming original show score. He later assisted mentor Danny Troob in crafting orchestrations from composer/arranger Mark Hummel and Gary Adler’s Christmas music and holiday arrangements for new, updated treatments of the annual holiday show and attended rehearsals and cast albums and DVD recordings.

  • Jim Brickman tour & album arrangements

    Jim Brickman (b. 1961) is an American adult contemporary pianist who “plays only the white keys.” Many of his 22 ‘new age’ albums have reached Billboard’s Top 200 charts and he has received two Grammy nominations. Nathan arranged and played piano on Brickman’s “Themes from ‘The Nutcracker’” on his ‘Comfort and Joy’ and other similarly Christmas-themed albums. Brickman asked Nathan to arrange and orchestrate 24 of his vocal and instrumentals songs for use with various orchestras across the US and future albums.   • 'Hansel & Gretel' film orchestrations

    ‘Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters’ is an action-horror film starring stars Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton. It is a re-imagining of the classic Grimm Fairy Tale ‘Hansel and Gretel’ in which the two siblings are adults and work for hire to exterminate witches. In 2010, after being approached by Gary Sanchez Productions, Wirkola pitched the film to Paramount Pictures. It was released in 2D, 3D, IMAX 3D, and 4DX. It topped the domestic box office on its opening weekend and earned $226 million. Hans Zimmer worked on the film soundtrack as executive music producer and Icelandic composer Atli Örvarsson (co-author of ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End’) created the film score. Örvarsson and the director’s shared Nordic heritage brought original discussions about the film music to the project. Nathan orchestrated the opening titles and ‘The Witch Hunters’ and ‘Business Is Good.’

  • Jackie Evancho, holiday album orchestrations

    Jackie Evancho is an American classical crossover singer who gained wide recognition from appearing on ‘America’s Got Talent.’ She has since had platinum-selling albums and now totals eight albums. Billboard ranked Evancho the top Classical Albums Artist of 2011. Nathan has arranged or orchestrated three of those albums. She has also presented three solo PBS concert specials. Nathan worked on Evancho's first full-length Christmas album, her fourth album overall that was recorded when she was 11. It contains 10 tracks produced by Rob Mounsey for Sony Music Entertainment. 
Nathan orchestrated the arranger, Ryan Shore's, two classic Christmas carols for full symphony orchestra in New York City by the St. Luke's Orchestra and NY Chorus of St. Cecilia. They are: "O Little Town of Bethlehem" and "The First Noel." It was the best-selling holiday album that year across all Wal-Mart stores.

    The Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts is a renowned artist residency program that supports established and emerging visual artists, writers, composers, and interdisciplinary artists from around the world. Uniquely housed in a residential prairie-style complex, KHN also hosts a public gallery that showcases works of Nebraska and regional artists. Since 2001, KHN has hosted more than 50 working artists each year which include a combination of visual artists, writers, composers, and interdisciplinary artists. Each has found privacy in which to create along with ample opportunities to interact with fellow artists in a vibrant and friendly community located in the rolling bluff country of eastern Nebraska. Nathan completed several works for Chamber Orchestra and Orchestra, as well as piano works, such as ‘Fireworks’ and ‘Little Toy Machines’ which have won praise and several awards. He began to sketch the first two movements of a Harp Concerto subtitled ‘Winter’.

  • 'Into the Woods' orchestrator assistant

    ‘Into the Woods’ is a musical film directed by Rob Marshall, from James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim's 1986 Broadway musical, starring Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, Emily Blunt, James Corden, Anna Kendrick, and Chris Pine. Nathan assisted his teacher, Jonathan Tunick the film’s adaptation recorded by the London Symphony and Philharmonic. New songs were written and pre-existing but unused songs were tried, but ultimately cut. The music producer explained the new score "emphasizes the woodwinds to make it feel a little lighter, especially the flutes, and we just made it a little jazzier — played more on the walking bass line. Inherently, when it has a jazz feel, it just feels lighter."

    JoAnn Kane Music Service is a company from Los Angeles that provides music preparation services including preparation of sheet music, midi transcriptions, and proofreading. Nathan helped to engrave and proofread using the latest music notation software and sequencing programs, including Finale 25, Sibelius 8, File Maker Pro, ProTools, Cubase, and Digital Performer. On-demand music transcribing, note-entry, MIDI clean-up, digital synestration mock-ups, binding and taping, and librarian work. Clients Nathan worked on included John Williams, Alan Silvestri, Hans Zimmer, John Powell, Michael Giacchino, Walter Murphy, Alf Claussen, Bruce Broughton, and John Debney.

    Jessye Norman was an African-American opera singer best known for her dramatic soprano roles and special concerts. She is associated with Beethoven's Leonore, Wagner's Sieglinde and Kundry, Berlioz’s Cassandre and Didon, and Bartók's Judith. She was the recipient of many awards, including forty honorary doctorate degrees from colleges, universities, and conservatories around the world, five Grammy awards including the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’, the National Medal of the Arts, and was a Kennedy Center Honors recipient. Nathan assisted lead arranger Patrick Russ on several of Norman’s special appearance performances with orchestras in her tours and recitals around the world.

    Pomplamoose is an American musical duo composed of husband-and-wife multi-instrumentalist Jack Conte and singer-songwriter and bassist Nataly Dawn. The duo was formed in 2008 and sold approximately 100,000 songs online. They are known for their viral YouTube videos and have gathered over 1.2 million subscribers and over 200 million viewers on their YouTube channel. Nathan wrote orchestrations for the Seattle Symphony to perform with the duo in a benefit concert for the Seattle Children’s hospital, conducted by Mateo Messina.

  • The Kennedy Center orchestrations

    The Kennedy Center has hosted the Broadway engagements of numerous iconic musicals —and staged thrilling revivals. It produced the special 40th-anniversary revival of Mame which featured Nathan’s orchestrations, adapted from the musical score by Jerry Herman and starring Christine Baranski. A period piece set in New York City and spanning the Great Depression and World War II. Variety’s reviews said of the revival, “Music director James Moore leads the 22-piece orchestra with verve, making Herman's terrific score and witty lyrics the main attraction.”

  • Spielberg's 'The Post' music copyist

    ‘The Post’ is a historical, political documentary film about The Washington Post and the publication of the Pentagon Papers, directed by Steven Spielberg starring Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks. Nathan worked at Jo Ann Kane Music in Los Angeles and was responsible for editing and proofreading John Williams’ handwritten scores for the orchestra soundtrack recording sessions conducted by Mr. Williams. The music is a combination of traditional orchestral instrumentation and what Williams called "very light, computerized electronic effects." Spielberg has said that ‘The Post’ was a rare instance in which he went to the recording sessions "having not heard a note" in advance.

    ‘Family Guy’ is an animated adult sitcom created by Seth MacFarlane on Fox. The show and its cast have been nominated for 27 Emmy Awards, with 8 wins. Various composers have worked on the series since it began in 1999, and Jo Ann Kane Music has worked with them all, with fast and highly-detailed music scores and parts, edited, proofread, and printed with sometimes only hours after being given the final list of music cues that need to be sightread, rehearsed, and recorded with members of the Local 42 orchestra musicians union. Swing, jazz, Broadway song parodies, big band, and film score genres collide in each episode. Nathan worked on nearly two dozen episodes which were scored by composers Walter Murphy, Ron Jones, and Joel McNeely.

    Johnny Mathis is a popular music singer whose dozens of albums have achieved gold or platinum status and 73 songs making the Billboard charts to date. He has recorded 73 studio albums, 18 of which achieved sales of 500,000 units and were certified as Gold status. Mathis also recorded 43 songs that reached Billboard magazine's Hot 100 list in the US. He has received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and has been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame for three recordings. Nathan arranged and orchestrated Christmas songs that Mathis has used in live concert appearances with orchestras on his tours worldwide.

    Nathan wrote arrangements and orchestrations of songs premiered at Los Angeles’ Disney Hall by request of America tenor Amick Byram, a two-time Grammy-nominated singer and session artist best known for providing the singing voice of Moses in the Dreamworks animated film ‘The Prince of Egypt.’ He’s also contributed voices for the films Shrek, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Pocahontas, Hercules, Mulan, Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World, The Road to El Dorado, and The Matrix among others. Nathan’s orchestrations of three songs for large orchestra were of hits produced by David Foster and were performed by members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra.

    At the oldest artists residency in the Southeast and one of the oldest in the nation, Nathan was selected from a jury panel of artists as the recipient of a financial award from the National Endowment for the Arts to be a composer-in-residence in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Georgia. There, he wrote a violin concerto, inspired after meeting virtuoso violinist Ray Chen at Bowdoin’s Summer Music Festival in Maine. Nathan also delivered several educational outreach programs in local schools and keynote presentations at their annual summer festival and showcase.

  • 'The Little Vampire' film orchestrations

    ‘The Little Vampire’ is a 2D and 3D computer-animated film based on the popular children's book series of the same name by German writer Angela Sommer-Bodenburg. The Wall Street Journal named it “one of the ten frightfully fun Halloween movies for kids.” Nathan orchestrated all music cues from the 1 hour and 23-minute TV-G rated family film by composer Vidjay Beerepoot. It was recorded and conducted before a studio orchestra and was theatrically worldwide when released in 2017 from New Line Cinema. It is available for streaming on-demand on Netflix and on The Disney Channel.

  • Lea Salonga: Carnegie Hall, arranger

    In her concert debut at Carnegie Hall in New York City, Nathan was asked by the music director to write a special concert finale that would spectacularly feature Lea Salonga's vocal range in a song, that the voice of Disney's animated princesses of both Mulan and Princess Jasmine (from Aladdin), had never had sung in public. The success of Nathan’s new arrangement and orchestration proved to be a rousing climax to the one-night-only, sold-out special concert event. 
Nathan’s arrangement of “Defying Gravity" has been chosen by Lea to be one of her signature orchestra concert highlights and continues to be frequently performed in her tours worldwide.

  • 'Virginia Center for the Creative Arts' composer

    The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts is an international artist residency founded in 1971. It has offered workshops, retreats, and scholarships to visual artists, writers, and composers to over 400 artists since its founding in 1971. Nathan was selected to be one of 25 artists from all artistic disciplines to be honored with a fellowship. Several fellows have included MacArthur Genius Awards, National Book Awards, Pulitzer Prizes, the Guggenheim Fellowship. While there, Nathan completed several pieces for a large orchestra and a commission for a 30-minute ballet for Chamber Orchestra.

    New York Times music critic, Allan Kozinn, wrote a favorable review after his piece was performed as part of the new music festival at June-in-Buffalo, which was performed by members ‘Ensemble Signal.’ The festival, founded by composer Morton Feldman, has a bifurcated mission to be partly a celebration of recent works performed by expert guest composers and ensembles, and an intensive workshop for a select group of young composers, from around the world, winnowed this year from over 100 applicants. Guest composers included Robert Beaser, Fred Lerdahl, Steven Stucky, Louis Andriessen, and Julia Wolfe. “Nathan Kelly’s ‘Harbor Music’ for flute and harp was disarmingly innocent. Its harp writing is tactile, its flute lines rich in melody. Mr. Kelly provides enough athleticism and dialogue to make this an appealing showpiece.”

  • 'Angriest Man in Brooklyn' orchestrator & conductor

    ‘The Angriest Man in Brooklyn’ is a comedy-drama film starring Robin Williams, Mila Kunis, Peter Dinklage, and James Earl Jones. The 83-minute film had a theatrical release worldwide by Lionsgate and was the last film to star the Oscar-winning actor-comedian Robin Williams. Nathan conducted and orchestrated all cues for the film score written by composer Mateo Messina. The score features live, studio orchestra musicians that were recorded over a period of two days. The film’s score also features Nathan’s arrangement of the jazz standard ‘Autumn in New York,’ for special use within the context of the flm’s narrative.

  • 'Gypsy' Broadway orchestrations

    ‘Gypsy’ is a musical by Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim, based on the memoirs from striptease artist Gypsy Rose Lee. It focuses on her struggles to perform on stage from an early age with her ambitious mother’s hopes for her to achieve stardom. Nathan worked on the revival for multiple Tony Award-winning star Patti LuPone, music directed by Patrick Vaccariello. Nathan collaborated with Disney orchestrator Danny Troob on creating new orchestrations adapted for the Broadway musical. Together, they supervised the orchestra rehearsals, new adaptations of dance and incidental music for the revival, and the touring orchestrations that were released worldwide.

  • NYU Music Theatre accompanist

    New York University’s Music Theatre department employed Nathan as rehearsal pianist and paid orchestra member as pianist for several performances for the Steinhardt and Tisch School. He also accompanied solo voice classes and played for group courses focusing on sequences of music theatre workshops that focused on song analysis, character analysis, music theatre styles, and vocal production. Classroom instruction was led by faculty and special guest lectures by visiting Broadway actors and directors. Coursework was given for student’s training in voice, acting, and dance and other related academic coursework.

  • 'Sweeney Todd' assistant to the orchestrator

    ‘Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street’ is a musical film adaptation of the 1979 Tony Award-winning musical by Stephen Sondheim, directed by Tim Burton. It has grossed more than $150 million worldwide and was largely praised for its cast’s performances, musical staging, costumes, and set design. Nathan assisted the Broadway stage musical's original orchestrator, Jonathan Tunick, who increased the orchestra from 27 to 78, by members of the London Philharmonic, conducted by another longtime Sondheim collaborator, Paul Gemignani. Few key changes in songs were needed, although there were many additions and deletions from the stage’s songs and score.

  • University of Texas - Austin, piano instructor

    Nathan worked as a Piano Instructor for several years through The University of Texas at Austin’s Informal Classes and Evening Division Courses. Since it was established nearly 50 years ago, the University’s Informal and Evening Classes has been a place for local experts and entrepreneurs to share their knowledge and skills with the greater-Austin community. Nathan taught piano literature and fundamentals to students and adults for over three years. While incorporating musical scales, theory, and the piano repertoire from three primary eras, Nathan culminated his classes’ students in a final public performance that boasted over 25 students each year.

    The Ucross Foundation, located in Wyoming, has hosted internationally visual artists, writers, and composers in all creative disciplines since 1981. Nathan was selected from a panel-adjudicated jury of anonymous artists in the candidate’s discipline, music composition. Nathan worked on completing several commissions for ensembles including an opening concert fanfare and a concerto for harp that was premiered by the Dallas Metropolitan Wind Symphony. He also began sketches for a large work for orchestra, which later became Symphony No. 3.

  • Leslie Gore arrangements

    Best-known for her #1 hit "It's My Party" with Quincy Jones and "You Don't Own Me," Leslie Gore was an American singer, songwriter, and actress. She later worked as an actress and composed songs with her brother, Michael Gore, for the 1980 film Fame, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award. Nathan’s arrangements of her classic songs were performed before a televised audience in NYC and included "Crazy Carousel," "Love Found Me," "Viva La Vida," and "The Hits Medley." The concert featured special guest appearances through some of her most well-known and newest songs.

    The ‘Dallas Metropolitan Winds’ was founded for local musicians to perform classical transcriptions, contemporary wind band literature, and traditional military band selections. Nathan played piano and euphonium and had many arrangements premiered by conductor Randol Bass, including the complete Chuck Jones’ cartoon score “One Froggy Evening” (1955) starring Michigan J. Frog, “Jukebox Saturday Night,” Bruce Broughton’s “The Rescuers Down Under Suite,” Resphigi’s “Gli Uccelli” and “Fountains of Rome,” John William’s “Olympic Fanfare & Theme,” “Somewhere In My Memory,” and “Hymn to the Fallen,” and Wagner’s “Prelude to Lohengrin.”

  • 'Family Weekend' film, orchestrator & conductor

    ‘Family Weekend’ is a comedy-drama film directed by Benjamin Epps and starring Kristin Chenoweth and Matthew Modine. The score is written by Mateo Messina in their fifth film score collaboration together. For the film’s soundtrack, Nathan orchestrated and conducted 44 individual cues for the 1 hour and 44-minute film for studio orchestra. It was recorded over a period of two and a half days. The film is a dark comedy, but Chenoweth shines brightly. Nathan would conduct her open songs at the Hollywood Bowl with the L.A. Philharmonic later the following year. The movie is currently available for online streaming on Amazon Prime.

  • 'Did You Hear About the Morgans?' music assistant

    ‘Did You Hear About the Morgans?’ is a Columbia Pictures romantic comedy film starring Hugh Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker, in their second film together. It was released theatrically in the US and worldwide by Sony Pictures and grossed over $85 million. Nathan assisted with orchestrations on the end credit feature song performed by Grammy Award-winning vocalist Steve Tyrell on the newly created song written by the director’s son called ‘New York Is Where I Live.’ It was recorded in New York City with a 50 piece orchestra.

    Nathan is a member of the Freelancers Union, a distinguished nonprofit organization headquartered in New York City, renowned for its unwavering commitment to advocating for freelancers' rights and well-being.     The Woodstock Artist Guild (also called The Byrdliffe Arts Colony) was founded in 1902 and is America’s oldest colony for the arts. Its artist-in-residence program supports over 70 artists per year in the fields of literature and the visual and musical arts. Woodstock is surrounded by the Catskill Mountains of New York State on 1,500 acres of land on the south-facing side of Mount Guardian, just above Woodstock. Nathan worked on completing several works for chamber ensemble, including those that were to be performed by Ensemble Linea, Mise-En, and the Arditti Quartet.

    Formed by Brian Lukow (who formed the boy band Dream Street), Nathan was asked to arrange music for a female teen pop music group ‘Huckapoo.’ The band opened for Aaron Carter and had their songs heavily featured throughout the 2000s, including on That's So Raven, Radio Disney Jams, and Disney Channel's feature films Pixel Perfect, and Spy School.
 Nathan worked on the songs "Perfectly," "Fallen," "Supernatural," "Where You Belong,” “Macho Man,” "Angel, "Crazy Boys," "Hug Me," “Crash the Party,” "I Should Have Said I Love You," "Runaway," "Crush On You," "Girl Can Dream," "I Wish You Were Here," and "Wherever You Are."

    Nathan orchestrated and conducted the beautifully hand-drawn animated Christmas children’s film that was recorded by the 80-member Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège in Belgium. The large orchestral score was recorded over five days and involved the talents and skill of over three dozen crew, audio engineers, music producers, supervisors, audio specialists, as well as international producers and financiers from France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and the US. The film boasts Oscar-winning producers from Vivi Film and il Luster Films and is available on Netflix.

    ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ is a musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Richard Stilgoe and Charles Hart based on the 1910 French novel by Gaston Leroux. It is currently the longest-running show in Broadway history, grossing over $1 billion, and has been seen by 130 million people. Nathan played keyboard (‘organ’) in the Broadway pit orchestra at The Majestic Theater for several years, substituting for the assistant conductor’s conducting performances.

  • Westminster College, NJ choir accompanist

    Westminster College of Rider University, in Lawrence, New Jersey is one of the world’s leading centers for choral study and performance. It was formerly a residential conservatory of music located in Princeton, New Jersey since 1920, before moving to Rider University's Lawrenceville campus in Fall 2020. The Choir has been recording choral masterworks for nine decades. Nathan accompanied the choral program in many auditions, festivals, concerts, and special performances in New Jersey and in New York City.

  • Golden Key International Honor Society

    Members of ‘The Golden Key International Honor Society’ must be undergraduate or graduate students recognized to be among the top 15% of their class by GPA. It was founded in 1977 to recognize high academic achievement among college and university students and is by invitation only. Nathan was invited based on his GPA of 3.9 on a 4.0 scale, for his Ph.D. in Music Composition in 2019, and was accepted in the organization during the completion of his Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) with a GPA of 4.0 on a 4.0 scale in 2021.

  • University of North Texas, music theory instructor

    Dean of Music, Dr. JoAnn Groom-Thornton, hired Nathan as a student grader for her 200+ Music Theory classes for undergraduate juniors and seniors. Nathan was then hired by UNT’s ‘Supplemental Instruction’ program to teach three 1-hour classes per week in Music Theory for any students wishing to seek additional help (often 20-50 students and overseen by the University). Studies showed attending these lectures boosted a student’s grade by an average of 1 letter grade. Courses include MUTH 1400 & 1500 [freshman]; MUTH 2400 [for sophmores]; and MUTH 2410 [sophmores]. He also graded student assignments for ‘Keyboard Harmony’ for Dr. Gene Cho.

    The ‘101 Dalmatians’ musical, directed by Jerry Zaks features music written by Dennis DeYoung (of the band ‘Styx’) and lyricist B. T. McNicholl. It is based on the children's novel by Dodie Smith and the 1961 Disney animated film. The stage musical was produced for U.S. tour by Troika Entertainment and featured Rachel York as Cruella DeVil. It received praise by critics for the cast performances, particularly for York, and the innovative use of stilts to simulate the novel’s original canine perspective and 15 live dogs. Nathan contributed orchestrations for lead orchestrator Danny Troob on several songs, dance music, and incidental music.

    The 2020 New York International Children's Film Festival awarded the film ‘The Club of Ugly Children,’ directed by Jonathan Elbers and with music by Vidjay Beerepoot, which was awarded the ‘Feature Film Grand Jury Prize.’ It also has won the ‘Grand Prize Film,’ at the 30th annual ‘European Youth Film Festival,’ which features several awards categories for films intended for young audiences with categories of best short film, documentary, environmental-focus film, etc. Nathan orchestrated the music for large orchestra (full Brass and full Woodwind compliment, with an expanded low reeds section for additional, special music cues) and Strings.

    Nathan was a member of 'Grammy U,' a division of The Grammy's Recording Academy, consisting of musicians, producers, recording engineers, and other musical professionals.     ‘Dirty Rotten Scoundrels’ is a musical comedy by composer/lyricist David Yazbek and book by Jeffrey Lane, based on the 1988 Steve Martin and Michael Caine film, starring John Lithgow on Broadway. It also opened in Australia, the West End, and has received international tours. It was nominated for 10 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Book, and Best Score, and won for Best Leading Actor in a Musical by Norbert Leo Butz. Nathan played Keyboard I on the musical, orchestrated by Harold Wheeler, in NYC as well as playing for rehearsals for new cast members.

  • Wagner College, NYC accompanist

    Wagner College’s Performing Arts Department in Staten Island, NYC, offers students a strong liberal arts background combined with intensive training in dance, music, acting, design, and more. With more than 50 years of producing musicals, it has taught the theory and practice of performance and technique to help guide students in their chosen profession in the musical theater arts. Nathan accompanied the department’s faculty classes in multiple semesters of auditions, workshops, and in performances.

  • 'Shrek' assistant to the orchestrator

    ‘Shrek’ was made into a musical by composer Jeanine Tesori and lyricist David Lindsay-Abaire. Nathan would again work with her in Spielberg’s musical film ‘West Side Story,’ distributed by Amblin Studios. ‘Shrek’ later opened at The West End and had international tours. A digital version of the film was made available on Netflix. Nathan worked with teacher Danny Troob on portions of the musical and reductions for international touring companies.

    Emerson College is a private college in Boston, Massachusetts. The college offers more than three dozen degree and professional training programs specializing in the fields of arts. Nathan was hired by the college’s Department of Performing Arts to sightread auditions of up to 100+ students in various places around the country, as panels selectively chose their top undergraduate and graduate candidates for the following school year. Students were accepted and scholarships were offered during the rigorous audition process.

    The Symphony’s regular concert season features gala concerts, classics programming of core repertoire, pops concerts, summer family performances, and educational outreach. Past music directors have included Lukas Foss and Michael Tilson Thomas. Nathan worked at the orchestra’s Administrative Offices to support their educational youth concerts, American Composers Orchestra partnerships, and seved as outreach and marketing coordinator.

  • Phi Kappa Phi

    Membership to Phi Kappa Phi is reserved for the top 10% of university graduate students. It is by invitation only, by an established campus chapter, and is restricted to students with integrity and high ethical standards and who are ranked scholastically at the top of their class, regardless of the field of study. The Honor Society was established in 1897 to recognize and encourage superior scholarship without restriction as to the area of study, and to promote the "unity and democracy of education". Nathan was accepted based on his GPA during his Master’s Degree studies in Music at Juilliard.

  • Thomas Newman, composer mentor

    Thomas Newman is a film composer whose four-decade career includes films, such as Shawshank Redemption, American Beauty, Finding Nemo, WALL-E, and Skyfall. Son of film composer and conductor Alfred Newman and cousin of Randy Newman, Nathan was selected by Dean Robert Cutietta of the Thornton School of Music and the Kaufman School of Dance at the University of Southern California to be partnered with the film composer who acted as a mentor for the year during studies in ‘Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television.’

  • Marymount Manhattan College, accompanist

    Marymount Manhattan College is a private college in New York City on the Upper East Side, with an enrollment consisting of 1,500 undergraduates as of 2020. The school was featured in the noted industry publication Backstage as one of the top colleges in which Broadway and Tony Award-nominated actors have trained, Nathan accompanied the musical theatre department’s auditions, scene, and workshop classes, and worked with faculty members to provide music rehearsals for students and musicians in performances.

  • Disney College Program

    The Disney College Program is a national internship program that recruits college students of all majors for a semester-long paid internship program working at either the Orlando or Anaheim resorts. 8,000 students have participated each year, representing at least 301 colleges and universities. Nathan was selected as an undergraduate to intern and also quickly began assisting at the in-house music studio ‘Main Gate’ in Kississimme, Florida. Flordia’s ‘Main Gate,’ under the music supervision of arranger Ted Ricketts. Nathan began learning music notation software Finale and writing arrangements for some of the local bands in the theme park.
