Carousel Ghosts is a piece for solo piano in which the melody vacillates between the grey areas of a loosely defined series of pitch class tones. The piece moves through the full range of the keyboard in a kaleidoscopic series of patterns and rotating pitch sequences. It is meant to suggest (not literally recreate) a distillation of faint and faded shadowed memories of bell-like echoes of distant, naïve turn-key chord progressions and a child-like tune as if it were coming from a far-off world in a forgotten and neglected landscape — one in which a crumbling and abandoned merry-go-round is the centerpiece for its musical inspiration.
