Intermezzo in A, Op. 118 (orch. 2003-2007) is one of the most beautiful and melodious pieces in the Brahms repertoire and one of my personal favorite pieces. Scored here for Chamber Orchestra, the rich integrity of the composer’s multi-layered counterlines and many tactile nuances have been carefully maintained and orchestrated moderately in the composer’s style with an attention to detail to all of the composer’s cross voiceleading and varying pedaling considerations. It is dedicated to my teacher and overseer of this work, Emmy winning, Tony winning, Oscar winning and Grammy winning orchestrator, Jonathan Tunick.
