74. Jester (2 pianos), 5.23

Jester (composed October 2012) is a whimsical, jazz-influenced escapade through leaping variations on a single musical strain’s tumble through jagged progressions and sudden series of sprees that quip between the sparse, intimate permutations of itself and the frisky polyrhythmic, free-forms of uproarious cutups. A quickly evolving and lighthearted toe-tapping ride traces elements of the motive’s distillation as it continually catapults between the spaces of the two-pianos that accompany, jitterbug and swing in this unique, fun and fleeting dance-inspired work.
