60. Naked Water – 4 mov’ts, 8.46

Naked Water (composed April 2012) are four individual treatments of contrasting soundscapes that introduce brief, new thematic material with mercifully gentle Oriental shadings. Their austere accompaniment and evocative harmonies while vertically bare but contextually impressionistic lend this tetralogy to be suggestive of the ancient folk songs from the Jiangsu Province of China and serves to support and unify this collection of sensitively scored, free-form fantasias. Stripped-down embellishments and minute, controlled movements envelop the delicately painted sounds in a hushed and pale world that is at once distinctively alluring and passionately compelling.
