25. Hudson River Sails, 6.52

Hudson River Sails (composed October 2012) is a chamber work for that is disarmingly simple, with widely separated melodies across the expanse of the instruments’ range, played with tender and austerely poignant care and touches of tantalizing, impressionistic subtlety that are more complex, technically and emotionally than it aurally suggests. It’s about gentleness and mystery and nostalgia. Starting afloat, it quickly settles and sublimely beautiful, in a hushed, lazy tone poem whose hints at dissonance and modality are more heartfelt than harsh.
