21. Owls, 5.35

Owls (November 2012) is a solo piano work which is a popular favorite among pianists.  Played in a fury of torrential notes and accented offbeats which mark the melody of this piece, Strongly played and heavy-handed, dense, low chords in the left hand contrast the interplay between the outlining broken chord arpeggiation of the right.

Scored for the full range of the instrument, this piece is a thoughtfully prepared and carefully balanced impressionistic work that is at once compelling and dark in its austerity.  Fierce in its intensity and richly textured in its dynamic drama, the attention to detail and ever weaving connective tissues that coalesce disparate elements form a powerhouse work that is tactile, engaging and impressive.
