19. Hole, 5.31

Hole (composed Aug. 2008) is a piano solo that was written at The Atlantic Center for the Arts in conjunction with a silent art film that was created of the same title.  In one of the most effective and moving projects that has garnered a many awards and attention, the music for this piece required a stark background behind which simple three-note patterns under a sparse, slow-moving accompaniment permute and rotate the series of pitch class sets, making the new areas in which this tumbling strain recurs, familiar and distinct.
